Chrno Crusade Review - AnimEast.com
Note: Guest review
I finished Chrno Crusade last night. I said it was intense, but that was only the first part of the 2nd season. It got darker! I checked the summary and yeah, that is a summary of the series all right. But if you think it's going to be a bit of fluff about a pair of exorcists, one a bumbling nun and the other a demon that she has contracted with, you are in for a shock.
The first 13 episodes almost have a comedy feel to them. The characters meet, interact, and grow together a little. Under that light hearted feel is a dark side that is barely touched. Beginning with the 14th things get dark fast. Things that are not deemed important in the early episodes come back to bite you.
The characters form bonds that you think are unbreakable, but everyone has secrets. These secrets literally destroy some of the main characters.
Watching this anime feels like a roller coaster ride, up and down in the beginning, fun and some thrills. Suddenly the ride goes down the steep incline - and doesn't come back up! The last episode has about 4 places that would make a normal ending. However in this story those are places to get your hope up, just to be punched in the stomach. The very, very last scene is at the Vatican just before the Pope's attempted assassination in 1981. Happy ending, no way.
I thought that Saikano had a sad ending. It would be a 3.5 on the Sad Scale, Chrno gets a 5.5 on a 5 scale.
Thanks to Jay for the review.
