Reviews/Anime/Spiral

Okay...I redid a lot of code on the site just so that I could review Spiral without having to do any wallpapers for it. You might think "wow, he must really like it." Well, you'd be wrong.

I can sum up Spiral by saying that I want those 13 hours of my life I spent watching it back. You'll probably wonder why, if it was so bad, did I watch the entire series? Well...I don't mind using spoilers here since if you go ahead and want to watch this series after reading this review you're nuts anyway...but the entire series keeps building on several main questions:

1. Where is Ayumu's brother?
2. What are the mysterious Blade Children?
3. Why are they missing a rib?
4. Why are they being hunted?
5. Why did they bother making this series?

Okay, well I'll go ahead and tell you. None of these questions are EVER ANSWERED!!! You never find out what happened to his brother or why he's missing or what he has to do with the Blade Children. You never find out the origin of the Blade Children or why they're missing a rib or why the series thinks you can tell from a distance that someone's missing a rib, thus making the Blade Children easy targets for the hunters...which you never find out why they're being hunted. Nor do you ever find out why none of these people ever just get into a knockdown, dragout fight as opposed to trying to kill the other person by annoying them to death with stupid mind games.

So the final episode was a pretty big letdown, since you figured you'd braved it through 24 episodes of a pretty dull anime to find out the answer to all of your questions, only to have none of them answered. Which its really too bad that they screwed up on the plot so badly, because the anime does have great seiyuu, great animation, and great character design. If you took all of the characters and put them into actually interesting situations, you could have had a really good anime. But this thing is hands down the worst anime I've ever seen. Avoid it as if it were the plague.
